CURRICULUM VITAE ET STUDIORUM

Paolo Silvestrini was born in Pisa-Italy on Sepember 16, 1960. He  graduated in Physics at the University of Napoli-Italy, in 1984. He is full  professor at the Second University of Naples (SUN) and is involved in the  reasearch activity at Istituto di Cibernetica "E. Caianiello" del CNR,  Naples.  He is leader of the experimental group active in Naples in the field of  Macroscopic Quantum Coherence and Quantum Computing, and author of more than  100 scientific publications.  The topic of the works of Silvestrini can be characterized by the  experimental study of the Quantum Behaviour of Josephson systems, either  single  junctions or SQUIDs. Of particular note the recent experiment performed by  the  Silvestrini as group to demonstrate the profound influence of level  quantization  on the behaviour of a macroscopic coordinate at temperatures well above those  where one might have expected thermal effects to wash out the quantum effects  of interest. This work opens a new parameter space for the study of MQC, which  holds a promise of permitting definitive tests of the paradoxes surrounding the  question of MQC as well as the possibility of quantum computing with Josephson  systems.
